CHRISTCHURCH MARKETS.

Christchurch, November li,

The sale to-day was a« good as could be expected so soon after the Metropolitan show. We quote prime ox btef at 18s to 19a per lOOlhs, and best shorn mutton at 2^d to £J4. Store Cattle. — The general run of prices for cows and heifers of varied quantities and conditions of which only a few were offered was from L 2 3s 6d to L 4 12s 6d. Steers, yearlings, Ll 7s to L 2 2s 6d; 2 -year-olds, L 2 to L 3.

Pat Sheep. — Owing to the market following so soon upon the heels of the Metropolitan Show there was a very mixed supply combining some specially good lines of show Bheep, and a comparately small entry of ordinary butchers' requirements. The sale opened with prices firm at last quotations, but after a few lots had been disposed of there was a decided improvement iv the bidding, and from that out entrance values were observed. Three pens of shapely wellshorn crossbreds of good weight were brought for 14s 6d to 15s, other butchers sheep showed a rise of about Is per head, or an average of fully 2^d per lb for prime lines of shorn wethers. Ewes, other than maidens, at about 2d.

Store Sheep. — The entry was very small, and quality throughout was far from good, and in consequence there was general depression in the market.

Lambs were confined to small entry of crossbreds, which sold at prices ranging from 6s 6d to 9s 6d. The quality was good, and competition fairly brisk.
