The leading Chinese merchant, of Cooktown, has received information that the Chinese Government will retaliate Australia's action in preventing the introduction of Chinese into the Colonies, by imposing a poll tax of 10 dollars on every Britisher entering Canton, Shanghai, Amoy, and Foochow.
