Feilding Hack Races
Pursuant to notice a meeting of gentlemen interested in sport was held on Tuesday night at, the Denbigh Hotel, in the Coinihereial room, which was literally crowded. Mt Macarth'uri M.H.R., presided, and briefly stated the object of the meetiug. The Awahuri Raciug Club having wound up its affairs, and donated the balance of their funds (£2O) to the nearest Hospital, several Feilding gentleman had considered the advisableness of holding a race meeting on the Feildipg course on the day (December 27th) now abandoned by the Awahuri Club. He invited discussion on the question, whether the meeting should be held under the auspices of the Feilding Jockey Club, or a club be formed for the purpose. But, he said, it would first be necessary for a resolution to be passed affirming that a meeting be . held on the day after Boxing Day. It was then Proposed by Mr Gosliug, seconded by Mr Light, That it was advisable to hare a Hack Race meeting at FeildiDg on Thursday, the 27th of December.—Carried. After some general conversation, it was proposed by Mr Gosling, seconded by Mr Henry, That a new Club be formed, to be called the FeildingAwahuri Hack Racing Club. As an ameudment, Mr E. Goodbehere proposed, and Mr Sherwill seconded, That the Feilding Jockey Club be asked to hold a Hack Race meeting on December 27th. 15 voted for the amendment, and 14 against it. The amendment was therefore put as the substantive resolution, and carried on the voices. Proposed by Mr E. Goodbehere, seconded by Mr Morey, That the Secretary of the Feilding Jockey Club be asked to call a meeting of the members with a view to give effect to the foregoing resolution. — Carried. In reply to a question, the meeting was informed that Mr Lethbridge had consented to allow the proposed Hack Races to be held on the course. Proposed by Mr E. Goodbehere, seconded by Mr Kirton, That the following gentlemen be a Committee to draw up a programme to be submitted for approval to a meeting of the Jockey Club, to be held on Tuesday next:— Messrs Henry, Lovejoy, Bell, Morey, and Wilson ; three to form a quorum ; the stakes not to exceed £100. — Carried. The usual vote of thanks to the Chairman closed the proceedings.
