The way in which Carbine disposed of the field in the Foal Stakes proves that Ensign's win in the Derby \Vas a couip etc fluke, and confirms the opinion that that the former's jockey must have been out-generalled. Maid«n Plate— llex 1, Aldivalloch 2, Quadrant 3. Five started. Won by a nose. Foal Stakes, 1± miles.— Mr D. O'Brien's Carbine, 1 ; Mr Gannon's Wycombe, 2 ; Mr Gannon's Melos, 3. Pearlshelland Aldivalloch al&o started. Won by a length in a canter. Time, 2miu. I2£sec. V.R.C. Handicap.— Bravo 1, The Yeoman 2. Chicago 3. Won by a length, The Yeoman beating Chicago by a head for second place. Canterbury Plate, 3 miles.— Mentor 1, Cyclops 2. Australian Peer also started. Won by a length and a half.
