Manchester Road Board
The above met this afternoon. Present — Messrs C. Bull (Chairman;, Pryce-Jones, Reeve, and Wheeler.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
Correspondence was read from the f ollowing :- GK A. Jackson, asking permission to fall bush on roadline opposite his property ; Ulerk Kiwitea Road Board, giving notice of the intention of that Board to apply to have the whole length of the Cheltenham Cross road declared a boundary road ; T. B. Russell, calling attention to a ditch fronting his section at Aehurßt, which is blocked up ; J. H. Hankins, re alteration in rate roll ; Under-Sec-retary Public Works, enclosing copy j of Bill to amend Public Works Act ; the same, acknowledging receipt of letter and petition re boundary road between Manchester and Manawatu Eoad Districts ; John Hanson, stating he would pay one-third cost of culverts on Waituna road ; P. Caranagh, asking the name of A. Forsaith to be put on rate roll; Clerk Eangitikei County Council, giving further particulars of certain costs for repairs to Onapuhi bridge ; J. Kelsale, re works on ABhurst-Bunnythorpe road; Margaret Slipper, asking permission to enclose 8 chains of Raymond street ; P. Bartholomew, re alteration on r&te roll ; G. E. Little (manager for Mr C. Pharajsyn), asking permission te fall bush on roadline ; the same, on the same sub. ject; Peter London, calling attention to the diversion of surface water on the road near hit property; Claude Francis, re ib* water off Pohangino road damaging his property, and offeriug to bear half the cost of making a drain.
Mr Capper waited on the Board in connection with the same matter.
Mr Bray, hngineer to the Board, gaye a general description of the position of existing drains and culverts, He did not think the water was doing any harm to Mr Capper's land.
Mr Capper stated, on behalf of Mr Francis and himself, that they were not prepared to make any other offer than that now before the Board.
The Chairman said he did not think the Board was m any way responsible. Mt Jones thought, if there was any ground for an action, the Board had bet* ter compromise it.
The Chairman thought it would be cheaper to spend the few pounds and save future trouble, . -
Mr Jones said, if the Board give way. they would be flooded with similar applications. The Board should offer only that Sam they e»n«ider themselves responsible for.
