A conference was held to-day between the coalowners and the miners out on strike, when an advance was made in the direction of a settlement of the difficulty, and the outlook la now more hopeful. November 2.
The prosecution of Salvationists at Woolongong for marching in procession is creating some stir. Eight officers were sent to gaol for three months for this offience. The press adrerselj criticises the severity of the sentence. Brisbane. November 2.
A terrifio hurricane at Clermont tore the roofs off some of the houses and drore hailstones as large as eggs through others. Vast damage was done to crops and merchandise.
