Volunteer Items

The Manchester rifles paraded last night when there was a good muster and only one man fined for absence.

Class firing was commenced at the butts this afternoon.

The corps will parade on Friday next, in the afternoon, for independent and volley firing under the inspection of Col. Stapp. The resignation of Captain Douglas Hastings Macarthur, Manchester Rifles, has been accepted, and Lieut. Pleasants is now in command of the Company.

We learn from the Napier Telegraph that the Hon. Mr Mitch elson has expressed himself highly pleased with the proposal to form a Native Volunteer contingent at Hastings. He has also promised to use bis best endeavors to further the formation of the native corps.
