Football Banquet
The Feilding Football Tlub wound up the season last night by a banquet at Oliver's iSmmre Hotel. Aboat 40 per» sons sat down to the spread, the sufficienny, variety, and quality of which, to getlier with the excellent taste displayed in the laying oat, reflected great credit on the host and hostess. Mr F, Y. Lethbridge, Vice- President of the Club, occupied the chair, and Mr W G. Hay butle the yicechair After the tables had been cleared the Chairman proposed the toast, of ' The Queen,' which being \ duly honored, Mr Fowler sang a song. The Chairmen then gave the ' The Army, Nary, and Volunteers,' coupled with the name of Trooper Fowler of the Alexandra Cayalry. This waa followed by a song by Mr Beading, a response from Mr Fowler, ami a song from Mr Ironmonger. Mr Lovejoy proposed ' The Borough Council,' coupled with the name of Coun cillor Haybittle, followed by a humorous song by Mr W> a ight, after which Mr Haybittle responded. Mr F. Seen sang an Irish song, and the Chairman propoi°d ' The success of the Feilding Football team,' coupled with the name of their captain. Mr G. Saywell, followed bj one of Mr Lovejoy's favorite songs. Mr G. Saywell responded, after which Mr Port* house and Mr Saywell sang. The Vice* 1 hairman proposed * The President .and Vice- President of the Feilding Football Club," coupled with the name of Mr J. Bartholomew in place of the President, Mr P. Bartholomew, after which Mr Hirst sang a song, and Mr Bartholomew responded to the compliment, and Mr Hartgill gare a welNfcnown nautical song. Mr Fowler gave "The health of the Secretary of the Club, Mr J. Henry/ whom he warmly eulogised, after which Mr Ironmonger sang another song, followed by a response from Mr Henry, and a solo on the occarma by Mr Pitavy. The Vice - Chairman proposed ' The health of the visitors,' coupled with the name of Mr H. Lance, after which Mr Wraight again sang, followed by a vong from Mr W. Belfit. Mr Lance acknowledged tue toast, followed by a recitation from Mr Fowler, and a song by Mr Reading. Mr Hartgill proposed 'The health of Mr Andrew Thomson," which was received with hearty cheers. Messrs Lore joy and Wraight sang a laughable duet. Mr Pitavy gave ' The Umpire of the team, Mr Booth,* after which Mr Hartgill gare a comic recitation, and Mr Booth responded, and Mr Lance a song. Mr Henrj proposed 'The English Footballers,' Mr Reeve giving a song. The Chairman proposed ' The Feilding Brass Band,' coupled with the name ot Mr Daw, which was drank with utmost enthusiasm, and responded to by Mr Daw. Mr Harigiil gave * The Ladies,' coupled with th* 1 mine of Mr F'auk Smith, who responded after 11 «ong by Mr Wiiisker Mr Booth proposed 'Tl>« Pre<6,' coupled with the name of Mr Heading and the [''eilding Stab. Mr Beading returned thanks, and Mr Hodges gave a song. Mr F. Seen proposed ' The Cricketers,' coupled with the name of Mr A. ParrSeveral other songs were sung, and after ' Our Host and Hostess' had been given, thanks to and cheers for the Chairman terminated a jovial and pleasant meeting.
