The New Goldfield.
I PEE UNITES MESS ASSOCIATION, i Blenheim, September 29. A leading reef prospector has written to a prominent citizen of Blenheim declining to part with any of his interest at Mahakipawa, the prospects being splendid. October 1. The news from the goldfields is still favorable. The character of the auriferous area is widening daily. At Waikakaho the prospectors have obtained 20oz. No more is known to have been got. Other claims are being pegged out everywhere. (Times' Correspondent.) Havelogk, Hept. 29. Gorrie and party, Pullman and party, and Newman have got good gold this week. One of the shares in Grigg's claim has changed hands for between £60 and £70. Three more leases have just been applied for. £140 has been taken at the Warden's Court here for leases and objections for a month. October 1^ The ground at Waikakaho on the main creek, at the left hand branch, is all taken up. Some time must elapse before it is tested ; miners had better wait the results before coming further. New arrivals must be prepared to prospect, as they did at Mahakipawa. Gorrie and party last week got nearly 21b weight and about 6oz from one of the lower claims at Big Creek, Mahakipawa. Two more applications are in for quartz reefing : Silence Goldmining Co., Mahakipawa ; extent, 30 acres ; capital, £7000. E. S, Oliver, Wakamarina, for the Oliver Twist claim ; extent, 30 acres ; capital, £9000 ; term, 21 years. A correspondent writes as follows : — The consensus of opinion amongst the miners I conversed with is that the reports published concerning " finds,' while true in themselves, are apt to carry false impressions, because the bare fact is stated without any qualification. It is quite true that there have been a number of good finds, and I had the pleasure of seeing two nuggets which "had been literally "picked up" in the bed of the creek. One of the original prospectors informed me that an acquaintance of his found gold to the extent of £20 one day before dinner in the hollows of the creek bed. But it must not be supposed that the terraces on either side of the creek of the creek will prove a gold-bearing nature. That has yet to be demonstrated. Those best able to judge are of opinion that the gold found on the creek bed has been washed down form the reef. In conclusion, I can only sayj it is not avisable for those in employto rush off hastily. (Wanganui Herald's Correspondent.) Hatelock, October 1. All available ground on the Waikakaho creek is taken up, and I should strongly advise others who desire to try their luck to wait until the present ground is properly tested before coming. Shafts are also being sunk in the flat which will test the extent of the field. Should this, ground prove payable there will be room for a largo number of miners. Meanwhile wait.
