At the Supreme Court, John Jenkins, James Parker, and William Higgins, convicted of cattle-stealing at Woodville, were sentenced to twelve months hard labor. Dunedin, October 1. A disgraceful scene took place in a back street on Saturday night, when two young women of bad character had a regular stand up fight in the presence of a number of men and women. One, who pleaded guilty to«day, was sentenced to one month, and the other, who was defended, to three months. Auckland, October 1. At the Supreme Court to day, A. Me Leed sued the Auckland Tramway Company for £200 damages for injuries received by falling from a tram car and breaking his leg on 23rd July last. For the defence it was contended that the plaintiff stepped from the car whilst it was in motion. A verdict was returned for the defendants, with costs on the lowest scale.
