The Manchester Rifles paraded last night for inspection: The company was instructed in manual and firing «xercises by Lieut.. Pleasants, after which he announced the resignation of Captain Maearthur of his command of the corps. Lieut. Pleasants is therefore now in command. . The next parade of the corps will be on the 12th and 19th of October. The following is the target practice required to qualify for capitation : — 40 rounds to be fired in the Ist and 2nd periods of individual firing, and «ach Volunteer to pass into or fire in second class. Ten rounds independent firing : Target 6x 6, distance 200 yards, front rank kneeling, rear rank standing. Ten rounds volley firing : Target 6 x 6, distance 200 yards, front rank kneeling, rear rank standing. Men who do not fire with their companies will be permitted to fire by squads as may be directed by the officer commanding the district, to enable them to qualify for capitation ; but their scores are not to be entered or computed in the figure of merit. The prizes hitherto awarded to corps will, for the future, be determined by the figure of merit made in the independent and volley firing. The date when the Manchester Rifles will commence class firing will be advertised by Lieut. Pleasauts on Tuesday next.
