Death of Marshal Bazaine

Marshal Bazaine, whose death is announced, was a prominent man in the time of the Franco- Prussian war. He did distinguished service in Africa and Mexico. In the Franco-Prussian war he capitulated Metz with an army of 175,000 men. For this he was found guilty of treason by the Military Commission of the National Assembly in 1871. The sentence of death was commuted to banishment for life to the Isle "ainte Marguerite, a small island off Cannes, on the Mediterranean coast. Here he lived for nine months with his wife and children, when his wife assisted him to escape to Italy. From thence he went to England, and finally reached Madrid on November 17, 1874 when he resided until his death. He was 77 years of age. Cobbe and Darragh have a good selection of garden tools, consisting of spades, rakes, hoes, and trowels. They also hold a large stock of Yates' renowned garden seeds.
