An Omission
The Eangitikei Advocate of Tuesday last contains an article ou the Tea Duty and Local Bodies. "It will be in the remembrance of our readers," it say 8, "that there was a big fight last session over the tea duty, the proceeds of which the Government proposed to devote to assisting local bodies. Fortunately the Government triumphed." The judicious editor omits to add that no member opposed this proposal of the Ministry more warmly than Mr Brttce, Af.H.R. for Rangitikei. If the honorable member had had his own way, the ratepayers of Rangitikei and Manawatu would have been deprived of subsidies, amounting to many hundred pounds. We do not understand on what grounds he bused his opposition, which, no doubt, he will explain when he addresses his constituents. For our own part, we thiuk it would be fortunate for the people of New Zealand if all their money was spent as profitably as the subsidies which the local bodies hare received from the Government, and of which Mr Bruce endeavored to deprive them.
