One of the principal southern coal mines was discovered to be on fire today and it is suspected that some of the men on strike are concerned in the affair. The fire was fortunately extinguished before much damage was done, Owing to the exertions of Air Buniker, Minister of Lands, a conference between the coal masters and the miners on the matters in dispute ha? been arranged. In the Appeal Court, Holt, tbe ex* manager of the Bank of, New Zealand here, appealed against the. decision of the lower Court handing over his interest in the Bosehill estate to the bank. The appeal was dismissed. Melbourne, September 4. There are now fully 1000 wharf hands out of employment owing to the Newcastle strike..
