Cricket Club

A meeting of those, persons inter. : ested in the formation of a Cricket Club was held at Mr KetemeyerV produce store on Saturday evening last. There was a very fair attendance. • ; ■'= Mr Sherwill was voted t» the chair, and explained the object of the meeting. He said the principal thing to consider was a suitable ground. There were plenty of players, and he thought there would be no difficulty in form^ ing a good and strong club, which, was in fact virtually in existence already ; but it would be necessary toform a committee and appoint officers. Mr Fowler proposed, That Mr Sherwill be Captain. Mr Hetemeyer seconded. Mr Sherwill consented if he could appoint a deputy when required. The motion was put and carried unanimously. Mr Sherwill propooed Mr Wrighti son as Secretary. Seconded by Mr ' Valentine, and carried. Mr Wrightson was also, appointed ' Treasurer. Mr Betemeyer proposed, abd Mr Fowler seconded, That the subscript tion be 5s annually. Mr Dixon proposed, and Mr K. Goodbehere seconded, as an amendment, That the subscription be 10s, and this was carried by the majority! The following were appointed a,' working committee : —The Captain i and Secretary, and Messrs Allen, Iveson, Valentine, and Retemeyer. ■ ■.:•■*• A conversation was held on th* question of a suitable ground. It was resolved, That the committed interview Colonel Gorton to ask-per-mission to me the old cricket ground; viz: the paddock adjoining Messrs Stevens and Gorton's sale yards in Manchester 6t-eet ' .-.■• Resolved, That no memher be allowed to play on the ground without paving first paid his subscription., ' " : ~A list of membership was 'opened in the meeting, and a good' number" put down their names and paid their subscriptions.
