The Continental markets also show an upward tendency, whilst in the American markets prices are advancing firmly. The average price for English wheat is now 35s 9d, although a large number of foreign cargoes have arrived. Nearly all off-coast cargoes have been sold. The total quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the united Kingdom is 1,088,000 quarters, and for the Continent 472.000 quarters. The American visible supply of wheat is 26,250,000 bushels. Two Australian wheat cargoes have been sold at 37s 6d. The Blengfell's cargo realised same price. Four thousand five hundred quarters, Adelaide shipments for prompt delivery, sold at 38s 3d. Australian frozen meat is quoted at 4£d. Sydney, August 23. Potatoes — New Zealand, 75s ; Cirou'ar Head, 755 ; Warnambools, 60s. Onions. — New Zealand, £7 ; Victorian, £8 to £8 10s. Oats.— Feed, 2s 2d to 2s 4d ; milling, 2s 4d to 6d; seed Tartarians, 2s 4d. Bran. — New Zealand, 9Jd; Adelaide and local 9Jd. Pollard. — New Zealand, 9£d ; Adelaide and local, lOd. Maize is firm at 2s 9d. Chickwheat, 2s 7d to 2s lOd ; milling, 3s 3d. Cheese, steady at 7 d to 7£d. Butter. — Local, Is 6d to Is 9d ; imported, Is 3d to Is 4d. Bacon. — Local, 7d; New Zealand, 9d. Hams. — New Zealand Is. Dunkdin, August 23. A private cable just to band advises that the English wheat market is excited. There is much speculation on account of the harvesting being retarded by the bad weather. New Zealand wheat is fetching 37s 6d to 38s 6d.
