The Manchester Rifles will be inspected to-morrow evening by Lieut- , Col. Stapp. All absentees will be fined. The Premier stated last night, in reply to Mr W. C Smith, that he understood there was not the least ■chance of the Naval and the Military Settlers and Volunteers Land Bill passing the Legislative Council. However he would make enquiries and see what could be done in the matter. Notice has been given by Mr Joyce to ask the Defence Minister "If a sum of money will be placed upon the Supplementary Estimates for the purpose of making the Naval aud Garrison Artillery Corps and Rifle Battalions at the four centres of the Colony, where fortifications are established, mo^e effective, and in accordance with the report of General Schaw." _ * During the short time Cobbe and Darragh have been in business their trade iv Tea has greatly increased. Not long sn e3 they announced the arrival of a very large consignment of tea from the well known firm of Nelson, Moate and Co, and they have this week received a much larger quantity from the same firm, beside a big lot of loose tea from other importers. Facts like these speak volumes for the value given at the Cash Exchange.
