J WELLINGTON MAEKETS

Wellington, August 18. George Thomas and Co. report produce prices as follows : — The several leadiug lines of breadstuffs and produce remain firm at last week's rates, which showed an increase on previously reported value. Oats are firmly held, and are esteemed good stock, in anticipation of further advances. Milling wheat has still a hardening tendency, but as yet the agitation in this line has not affected prices for flour, which are unaltered ; good fowls wheat is becoming scarce, though large quantities of inferior grain are offering. Prime potatoes are quoted locally at 75s ; we note that the Sydney market is a trifle easier, although rates are still on the same basis as previous telegraphic reports. Prime onions are now £5 per ton. Oatmeal firm at £10 10s. We quote short oats, 2s 3d to 2s 5d ; long feed ditto, 2s 2d to 2s 3d ; seed samples, 2s 4d to 2a 6d ; flour, £8 to £9 ; fowls' wheat, 2s 6d to 2s lOd ; maize, 3s 7d; pearl barley, 21s ; feed barley, 2s 9d ; beans, 3s 4d ; peas, 3s 2d to 3s 6d ; pollard, £4; bran, £3 10s; split peas, 17s; rye grass seed, 3s 6d ; Italian do 3s 3d ; cocksfoot, 3£d ; fresh butter, active at Is 3d ; eggs, 9d ; cheese 4d to 4£d ; hams and bacon, 7d ; honey, tins, sd ; lard, 4£d ; salt butter, lOd ; pastry samples from 3d to sd.
