Field- Marshall General Count Von Moltke has been appointed President of the National Defence Commission, and has resigned his position of Chief General of the Prussian Army Staff. He will be succeeded by Lieut.-Gen-eral Count Von Waldersee. London. August 13. Mr O'Connor and Mr John Redmond, M.P.s, have commenced separate actions in England against the proprietor of the Times for charges made against them In the action Parnell intends bringing against the Times in Scotland, £50,000 are claimed. Seddon the captain of the English football team, was drowned in the Hunter Itiver, at Maitland, this afternoon. He had gone out rowing in an outrigger which capsized with him, and before any assistance could be rendered, he sank. A fatal accident occurred to-day at Bourke at a picnic party. A van proceeding to the picnic capsized, and the occupants were thrown out. Two girls, named Power and McCarthy, and a boy, named Payne, were killed, and six others seriously injured.
