The Hamburg branch of the Defesche Bank has, united with other firms, founded a new line of steamers for the Australian trade. Two steamersare now in course of construction for them. The new service will commence at the begin nim; of the year. Valpabaiso, August 10. Floods in the country districts have caused great devastation. Two hundred persons hive been drowned. Damage to the extent of a million dollars has been sustained. Paris, August 11. M. Goblet has addressed a circular note to the Powers on the Massowah difficulty, in which he insists that the district has always been regarded as a portion of Egyptian territory. He denies the right of Italy to annex it. The note further protests against Greece's seizure of Zulla, and threatens reprisals. VI. Eochefort has been fined 5000 francs for publi hing in the Parisian journal L'Entransigeant an article libelling M. Jules Ferry. Dcbban, August 10. The Lamas have disregarded all the efforts of the Chinese Ambassadors at Tarsa to arrange a conference with the British diplomatic agents for the settlement of the difficulty.
