The commander of the Spider claims that his tactics would have resulted in the destruction of the shipping at these ports. A fishing lugger foundered off Scar-« borough, Yorkshire, and nine persons were drowned. Rome. August 7. The whole of the Lipari Islands are in aetire eruption but no fatalities are reported.
