♦■ [We are not responsible for the opinions of our correspondents.] THE PUBLIC LIBRARY. TO THE RUITOR OF THE STAR. Sir, — On reading Mr Councillor Haybittle's letter in last evening's >tah it occurred to me that it may lead to some misunderstanding which, I I think, ought to be set right. Mr Haybittle, in the latter part of his letter, would appear (although, no doubt, unintentionally) to lead the public to suppose that a sum of £15 was granted (that is given) to the Library Committee, whereas it was merely an advance (or loan) in anticipation of the library rate now in course of collection, as was expressly intimated in the resolution vrhioh was proposed by myself and carried unanimously. — I am, &c, Saml. Goodbehebe, Mayor. Feilding, August 8, 1888. [Councillor J. C. Thompson voted against the resolution, — Ed. F. S.]
