Men Wanted
♦ While we hear from all tbe large towns in the colony complaints that men cannot get work, it seems singular that in this most fertile and progressive part of the colony there should be an absolute dearth of labor. We cay at once thatr the ordinary town laborers who, according to a correspondent, want their boots cleaned for them in the morning, and a theatre to amuse them at night, are net the men who are likely to be successful here. The men we want must be young, energetic, and prepared to meet and overcome all the difficulties of opening up bush land. There is abundance of work for experienced axe, men. We know of upwards of ten thousand acres of bush to be felled at an average of thirty shillings per acre this year, if the men can be gut to undertake it. That means a sum of fifteen thousand pounds is lying: idle only waiting for men to come and earn it. Should any Auckland bushmen be put on the list of the unemployed, owing to the recent acquisition of the kauri forests by a syndicate which may not require so many hands by the number of sawmills employed beiug reduced, we hope they will be induced to try their fortunes here. The climate is in every way superior to that of Auckland, meat and provisions are cheaper, the roads are better, and the wages higher. In conclusion we may mention that " the halt, the lame, or the blind" may keep away. This place is only for the strong and able bodied.
