It bag been suggested that, with a view of checking sheep-stealing, the Government should take steps for so amending the Auctioneers Licensing Act, as> to re* quire auctioneers to keep a register of the brands of sheep sold ; such register to be open to inspection by Justices of the Peace and officers of the police force. A Losing Jokb.— A prominent physician of Pittsburg said jokingly to a lady patient who was complaining of her continued ill-health, and of his inability to cure her, "Try Dr Soule's American Hop Bitters!"
