JPER UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION. I Melbourne, July, 25. A large number of forged notes on the English, Scottish and Australian Bank are in circulation. An Italian was arrested to-day in trying to pass one. Sir William Jervois spent this after « noon in the New Zealand Court at the Exhibition, and expressed great satis faction with the general arrangements of the court, considering that the representation of the colony was of a- thoroughly sound and creditable character, the fernery especially eliciting the warm admiration of His ExcelleLcy. Sir William also expressed great surprise at the excellence and extent of the art exhibits from New ZealandSydney, July 24. In the coarse of a speech at the cere* mony of the prorogation of Parliament, the Governor congratulated the Colony on the fact that the Government had the foresight and perseverace to pursue a course in connection with the Chinese difficulty which had practically set the disturbing question at rest. He expressed a belief that the firm, self-reliant attitude of New South Wales would strengthen the hamit of the Imperial Government in dealing with the matter. The prospect of uniform legislation on the part of the other colonies was uncertain, notwithstanding the agreement come to by the recent Conference held in Sydney.
