A warrant has been issued for ■ the arrest of Jackson, a well-known stock broker of Newoastle, on a charge of an extensive forgery of bills to the extent of several thousands pounds. It is stated th»t Jackson had large betting transactions with Holt, the ex* banker, and being hard pressed by the latter for paj» ment he forged the bills in order to stave off the crash which would have followed his being posted as a defaulter. Jackson is supposed to hare gone to Manilla, the capital of the Spanish settlement in the Philippine Islands. A horrible murder has been commit* ted at Wanaring. A man named Eeid eh >pped his wife on the head with a tomahawk, smashing her skull in. Reid, who is evidently insane, was immediately ar» rested, whereupon he coolly remarked, " that he had chopped her until he was tired." Melboitrnb, July 19. Mr Millet a mining speculator has been robbed or £BCHX) worth of scrip. A man named Elsland was tosday cut in half owing to a circular saw breaking.
