Awahuri School Committee

TO THE EDrTOK OF THE STAR. Sib, — Permit me to give an emphatic denial to the assertion made by *• A Correspondent," in your issue of the 12th inst., where he says — " It is pretty generally known that the Awahuri School Committee were selfelected." Several gentlemen at the householders meeting declined nomination. The election was by ballot, as prescribed by the Education Act, 1877. The seven declared duly elected (including one absentee) averaged nine votes each, so that no single member of our Committee can truthful ■•• be termed "self elected," and "A Correspondent" must either have been misinformed, or wilfully stated that which he knew to be untrue. — I am, &c, Jos. Weightmajt, Chairman of Householders Meeting. [This correspondence must now be closed.— Ed. F.S.]
