The Feilding Star. SATURDAY, JULY 14, 1888. Responsibilities of Local Bodies

The poor Auditor- General is not , kindly regarded by some of the public ' bodies in Westlaud. He has returned the balance sheet to the Charitable Aid Board, and pointed out that members could only borrow on their personal responsibility. The Chairman does not believe the Auditor is right in his opinion. The Auditor has also called upon various members of the County Council, of whom Eichakd Seddon, M.H.It., is one, to refund between them some four hundred and odd pounds that has been paid as travelling expenses. With regard to this a leading local paper takes up the cudgels, and says : — " The Au-ditor-General has issued his mandate, and all he has to do now is to recover the money, if he can." The editor is no fool. The Charitable Aid Chairman is a shrewd business man, and Dick Seddon, M.H.K., knows a lot; but if we speculate we shall back the Auditor.
