Wanaanui Sash and Door Factory and Timber Company (Limited) - The fifth annual meeting of the shareholders in this company was held on Monday last, when the following report was presented : — Gentlemen, — The balance-sheet .for the fifth year of the Company's operations is herewith presented. The profit for the year, after making provision for all doubtful debts, amounts to £1192 19s lid. To this must be added the £279 18s 2d left to the credit of Profit and Loss Account after pacing last year's dividend, and trans- , ferring £50 to the Reserve Fund, making the total available for distribution, £1472 18s Id. Of this amount £527 Is lOd was absorbed in paying the interim dividend in December last, thus leaving £945 16s 3d still to the credit of the account. Your directors would recommend the declaration of a dividend of 5 per cent for the six months, making, with interim dividend previously referred to, a dividend of 10 per cent for the year. The proposed dividend will absorb £550 16s, and with a transference of £250 to the Reserve Fund, bringing the total of that fund to £1500, there will be a balance of £145 0s 3d to carry for. ward. During the year your directors purchased, on advantageous terms, the business formerly carried on by Messrs P. and J. Bartholomew in Wanganui, and have amalgamated the yards. Messrs Bartholomew accepted 84 shares of the Company, paid up to £6 per share, in part payment of purchase money, and one of the firm joined the direction. Your Directors have also to report that they acquired the freehold of the section fronting Taupo Quay on which stand the offices and store-rooms, thus making the whole of the land occupied by the Company for factory purposes (acre and a quarter) an unencumbered freehold, Considerable improvements - and additions have been made during the year to the building in use, the whole cost of which has been charged against revenue. According to clause 76 of the Articles of Association, Messrs C. Bull, T. Denby, and H.Cornfoot retire from office,- but being eligible, offer themselves for reelection. W. H. Clapham, , Chairman* The Chairman in moving the ad option of the report congratulated the shareholders on the continued success of the Company, notwithstanding the prevailing depression. The manufactured goods turned out at the factory had obtained a deservedly , high reputation for sound and hones'*/ workmanship, and were in good d-*j\ mand not only locally, but also on #»c West Coast of the other island. The operation of the Company has been advantageously extended during the year, and the directors trusted that future reports would be ev^n more satisfactory than the one "now- presented. Major Neill in seconding the , motion expressed his pleasure at the progress made. The nation was carried unanimously. The retiring dir/t?™ (Messrs-O. — Bull, T. Denby, an/^T» Cornfoot) and the auditor (Mr E 'Broughton) were then re-elected. -A- hearty vote of thanks was acc< i% A e< l to the manager and staff on tR motion of Mr Cornfoot, and a similar compliment paid to the directors*^ the motion of Major I Neill.
