The claim was made as damages for alleged breach of contract on the part of defendants. The original agreement of 1885 was produced, Mr Staite contending this agreement had since been renewed from year to year. Edward Turner deposed : He had worked for the School Committee in 1886 on same terms as first agreement; Mrs Turner signed the contract ; the arrangement was made in 1887 by Mr Watts " with his missus" ; Mr Watts called on witness about Ist or 2nd of June ; had always worked with his wife ; his wife drew the money from the Committee ; Mr Watts said witness' duties would terminate on June 30 ; showed Mr Watte the written specifications, which Mr : Watts said were no good ; asked him about the six months money ; was wii- | ling to complpte the contract which was £30 a year. Cross-examined by Mr Prior : Mrs Turner very nearly always received the money ; had been paid to the pnd of June ; had tendered for the job again for the time for which he was now sueing ; (tender produced). Jane Turner deposed : Since 1885 had done the work for the Committee ; had arranged in December last with Mr Watts to do the work for this year ; had refused to continue the contract; told him (Mr Watts) to call for tenders as that would give satisfaction ; never saw Mr Watts again ; Mr Watts was aware she had altered her mind, and was going on with the work ; claimed £15 for the remainder of the term. Cross-examined : Mr Watts never said a word to witness about the Education Board grant having been reduced. Messrs W. Watts, H Worsfold, and Reading, members of the Committee, also gave evidence. Mr Prior addressed the court, and Mr Staite having replied, The R.M. said E. Turner should be struck out of the claim. The old agreement had been extended to the end of 1887. He thought the arrangement was only a quarterly one, and decided in favor ot defendants with costs 31s. [.Left sitting.]
