Macarthur, re Mrs Jacobsen, whose husband had left her, and recommending a certain sum to be paid her. Circular from Property Tax Commissioner, re applications from valuers. From John Cotter, stating a price for Ferry Reserve, and enclosing the deposit. From Colonial Secretary, re gazetting results of £4000 loan. From G. Wheeler, asking permission to erect a fence with gates across the Waituna road. From Secretary Hospital Board, re audit of charitable aid books. From D. H. Macarthur, forwarding a letter from J. Petition for works in No. 5 ward from ratepayers. From J. Laing, re ditch at Ashurst. From T. Pupich, Ashurst, asking on what terms he may be permitted to occupy house on river bank. Mr M'Crea waited on the Board tvith reference to his road. He said it was in a very bad state. The chairman said the only way to get the roads made was to borrow the money. He promised the Board would take steps to have the road gazetted and have the necessary work done. Mr Pubich waited on the Board re house on river bank. A deputation of ratepayers in No. 2 Ward presented a petition to have their roads put in a better state, other* wise they would decline to pay rates. The Chairman said a proposal to borrow £1600 to make roads in No 2 ward was then under the consideration of the Board, and if the ratepayers interested accepted the proposals and agreed to pay a special rate, they would get the roads. The spokesman of the deputation said he thought forty were in favor of a loan. Proposed by Mr Lethbridge, seconded by Mr Jones, That John Jeffries be allowed to fell the bush on Forlong's road fronting section 29 on tha Board's usual terms. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Lethbridge, seconded by Mr Jones, That W. T. Bull's request for bushfelling on roadline fronting his section No. 14 Watershed road be granted on the Board's usual terms.— Carried. Proposed by Mr Jones, seconded by Mr Lethbridge, That Messrs Wheeler j and James' requests for permission to j erect gates on the Waituna road where it goes through their respective properties be granted. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Jones, seconded by Mr Wheeler, That the Clerk be inI structed to take the necessary steps to have the road leading from the Makino road to Mr M'Crea's property I gazetted.— Carried. Proposed by Mr Lethbridge, seconded by Mr Jones, That P. Apel's request re fencing 2 feet on Makinoroad be granted. — Oarried. Proposed by Mr Wheeler, seconded by Mr Reeve, That the following alterations be made in the rate book — From Wilde and Lance to H. Lance r John Noffke to J. Heappy ; A. Ross to W. Newman ; J. Reid to J. Walkerj and insert T. and J. Hastings as owners of sections 24 and 25 Scandinavian settlement, and H. White as owner of section 19 B. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Jones, seconded by Mr Lethbridge, That the Chairman take the necessary steps to have a poll taken of the ratepayers in No. 2 ward as to the advisability of borrowing the money under the Local Bodies Loan Act to make the roads mentioned in the Engineer's report. — Carried. NOTICE OP MOTION. Proposed by Mr Reeve, seconded by Mr Lethbridge, That a special rate of id in the £ be made on all rateable property in No. 6 ward to pay interest on a loan of £3350, to be borrowed under the Government Loans to Local Bodies Act. proposed by Mr Wheeler, seconded by r Mr Lethbridge, That inasmuch as the Onepuhi bridge is a benefit to the whole Koad District, and not a source of income to No. 3 ward, therefore the cost of repairing the said bridge aad approaches be shared by all the wards. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Reeve, seconded by Mr Lethbridge, That the Engineer be given permission to put on two extra men for four or five weeks to do the different jobs already authorised by the Board in No. 6 ward. — Carried. Tenders were then opened for logging and clearing Waituna road, and for filling gully and putting in culvert on Waituna Valley road. Proposed by Mr Jones, seconded by Mr Reeve, That seeing Mr Manson ' already has a metalled road to his j property the Board cannot in fairness ; to others grant any further expendi- { ture for his benefit while so many i settlers have no outlet at all, and therefore no tender be accepted for the work on the Waituna road. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Lethbridge, seconded by Mr Jones, That E. Parson's tender for the Waituna Valley road be accepted. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Reeve, seconded by Mr Lethbridge, That the culverts condemned as unsafe by the Engineer be replaced as suggested by new wooden culverts. — Carried. It was resolved, That the Engineer be authorised to put 100 loads of metal on Wilson's line, and clear the scrub where he thinks necessary, and that the chairman draw the attention of the owners of the mill now starting there that if they injure the road they will be called upon to repair the same under the Public Works Act. Proposed by Mr Reeve, seconded by Mr Wheeler, That the re-metalling as recommended by the Engineer, on the Palmerston Gorge road, be proceeded with at once. — Carried. The petition from the settlers in No. •5 ward was ordered to be held over -until next meeting. Proposed by Mr Wheeler, seconded by Mr Reeye, That Mr Lethbridge be allowed to hang a gate over Swain--son's road. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Lethbridge, seconded by Mr Wheeler, That the chairman take any steps he thinks necessary to get the Bunnythorpe railway load on south side of railway line proclaimed a boundary road under the management of the Manchester -Road Board.— Carried. The usual accounts were passed and ihe meeting adjourned.
