. | By Electric Telegraphv-^ppyright, [ PER. UNITED PREB& ASSOCIATION. \ SnWßTi'Jnly 1. The local manager of the Eastern Extension Company states that there is no ground whatever for believing . that one of the cables was broken ; before Friday last and the fact kept secret. The official statement declares that on Friday, the lsst fjinae they spoke to Singapere, the signals became Bmall on the new cablet anci that the old cable was all right on >the same , day. It i 8 thought that the; break of | the cables was caused l>y an eruption i in the Strait of Baly, whicp is near I Java. Disturbances which nave hitherto been frequent in this locality have been the cause of the cable jbeing interrupted on previous occasions. Th& Company have made arrangements for at once repairing the break, and it is expected thnt one or two of their vessels are available for the work. The new cable broke 100 mtle^ from Java, and the old one 500 miles from Port Darwin, . Adelaide,) July 2. Further tests made by the show that both cablea brofe* close together. The fault in the old cable is 85& miles from Port Darwin, and in the new one 40 miles further on. '
