Tea at Makino
<•- — ■ — IFBOM OTJB COBBBSPOMIJBNT.T The anniversary tea of the Makino Methodist Sunday School, was held on Friday evening last in the state school. The was a large attendance of all ages and both sexes. The numbers present was convincing evidence of the rapid progress of the district as well as the popularity of the -entertainment. It must be very encouraging to the friends of the young m charge of the school, to find their efforts to advance the highest interests of the children so generally, appreciated. It is pleasant to see all sections of the community forget their little differences of opinion, come together to enjoy the social <jup, and so encourage those who give a good deal of time and attention to the training of the young m religion and virtue, in truth and rightousness trhich has, as the Chairman told the audience, far more to do with the welfare of the children, even in this life, than any amount of mere secular education. A. bountiful supply of good things was provided and graciously served out by the .ladies of the district. The children, being the first on the ground, composed the advance attacking party, and did great execution, plates of all sorts of delicacies disappearing as if by magic, giving a grand testimony to the bracing appetising air of the' Makino valley. Tea meetings are not likely to die out in country districts, where such stomach-power is cultivated. The meeting proper commenced, a prominent feature of which was the sing- \ ' ingof a series of beautiful selections \ by some Feilding friends and the local I choir, ably conducted by Mr C. Lucas. 1 Addresses were delivered by the \ cbaiTman, Mr George Adams', Mr 0. \ Lucas, and * report and address by \ the euperiatendant of the school, Mr I H. Curran. Miss Adams gave a nice V recitation composed, I am informed, } by herself. The Bey. Mr Harris [ brought the meeting to a close with a j j telling speech, addressed ea penally to j • the young, on the doty and advant- J ages of self -culture, emphasising the Cultivation of the moral &nd spiritual ► and doing goqd to others, | 'VcOTclutting by prppodng>earty votes " ' of thanks to all and' sundry tpHo had | worked- eo wiiliagly • Towards makingI th^ mesting a';MicosßK'in;eyQ"y way,, I wbioa was,6eeo ; nfdedj>y Mr,E*£}uMa»
