The Government intend to cany out the recommendation of Major General Schaw relating to the encouragement of rifle clubs. The Minister of Defence states that there are already 24 such clubs in existence with the colony. The Manchester Rifles paraded last night for inspection by Col. Stapp. The muster was not so good as usual, a number of the men being absent on leave. Corporals Powles, Chamberlain, and Henson, passed their i examinations as sergeants, in practi- | cal drill. The July parades will be | held on the 13th and 20th of that month.
