Volunteers
The Manchester Eifles will parade for inspection to-morrow evening at the usual hour and place. A commisaion, consisting of Lieut.Colonels Butts and Hume, Captains Douglas, Ooleman, and Falconer, has heen appointed to revise the Volunteer regulations. No date has yet been fixed for the first meeting of the j commission, but the members will soon assemble to cominenee business. ■ An appeal is to be made to the Parliament of Victoria to increase the vote for defence purpeses, making the special appropriation £130,000. The Hawera Bifle Cadets have been disbanded. It is said that the volunteer officers of Wellington are taking steps to show their appreciation of the promotion of Captain Hume to the rank of lieutenant-colonel, and a banquet is to given at an early date to the officer in ouestion.
