The Late Mr James Hastie .

/ — - ♦- — It is with much regret that we record the death of Mr James Hastie, the proprietor of the Feilding Hotel, which took place this morning about half past eight o'clock. Mr Hastie had been ill for many months, and his end was not unexpected. He leaves behind him a widow and family of four children to mourn his loss. He was well known in Napier and Gisborne, where in the troublous times with the natives he did good service as a trooper. Wherever he has lived he has been a man much liked and respected for his many excellent qualities. He was noted for his generosity, and no person sick or distressed ever appealed to him in vain for assistance in their hour of needIn Feilding his career has been marked by push and enterprise from the beginning to the end. He took no part whatever in public affairs, devoting his energies principally ta hid business, thereby making it a. success by which, we are glad to know, he leaves his sorrowing family comfortably provided for. The sympathy expressed with Mrs Hastie and her family has been .universal, and we cordially join in regreting the loss they have sustained of one who was a kind husband, an effectionate father and a warm friend. The funeral will take place on Thursday afternoon at two o'clock, and as the deceased was a very old member of the craft it will 'he a Masonio one. Invitations have I been forwarded to the several lodges j in the district, and it is expected the ! attendance will be large. < *BBBBMHMBBBBM___H__BM___n___B_|
