Watts,' Chairman State School Committee, asking that the schdol be exempted from the regulation, in reference to the nightman. From the Traflic Agent of the Railway) stating the stationmaster had teen instructed to comply with the regulations as to removal of night «oil. From the Secretary Hospital ana Charitable Aid Board, Wanganui, stating the rental value of the Borough for rating purposes is £9249, and the amount levied for Hospital maintenance is £11 0s 6d, and £14 14s for Charitable Aid. From H. McLenaghan, re price quoted in his tender for supply of metal, Viz: Is lid, which was mis* taken for Is 4d, and withdrawing his tender. Your Committee, as instructed by the Council, beg to report on the financial condition of tiie Public Library and Reading Room as follows :— The account was on 31st March overdrawn on the general account to thti extent of £66 11s 4d, the result of about 6;yea#s" working, The amount, however, would have been much less had it not been for the -stoppage of the Government subsidies for the past two years The present expenditure of the Library and Reading - Room exceeds the income by about £8 per s -aimuGQ without providing for a periodiced supply of new. books. To meet the deficiency in the annual working expenses of the Reading r Room the Committee recommend that a charge of it per quarter be made to all persons using it, provided that they are residents of the district, but that all visitors who may be; passing through the town may be allowed to use the Beading Room free of charge.
