It has been suggested that : China is .powerless to check the influx into .A us. tralia, as the Chinese already here came from Hong Kong, which is a British colony. The Chinese residents in thig City are considering the advisablen* ss of requesting Sir Henry Parkes to allow thfir being represented at the coming Chi ese toifi reace. They state they are anxious to assist the Government in pie en ting any great influx of their coun'rynien. In the House this afternoon the Premier delivered a statement of the course the Government intended to pursue. The Land Bill was to be dropped for th's scssim. The Land Property tax i*ill will he proceeded with, and the Chinese Bestriction Bill would be dealt | with to its completion. In ihis matter the Government intend to withdraw from the course previously determined onAmended Standing Orders were to be introduced. He stated that the deficit of jN ew South Wales had not increased one shilling siace the Government took offiYe. The deficit stands now at £2,---620,000, and the Treasurer would at once introduce a Bill providing for ita extinction. He proposesto pay off a. quarter of a million annually for ten years, pay« meats to be made every six months. Melbourne, June 7.
