THE FIRE-BELL.
TO THE EDITOR OF THB STAII. Sib,-— On whose authority was the false alarm of fire given this morning ? In the interests of public safety, to say nothing of peace and quietness, it is sincerely to be hoped that suoh a piece of tomfoolery will not be perpetrated again. It would be sad to have an exemplification of the boy and the wolf, when real danger is at hand, through indifference produced by false alarms of this sort I hear it was done as a test to the Fire Brigade, to see how maty would turn out. Query — where to ? So perhaps I shall be looked upon as a defaulter, notwithstanding that I, with many other members did turn out, though not present on the scene of the fire, whioh fortunately did not exist. Had there lieen real work to do I have no doubt there would have been very few absentees, but I see no sense in making fools of people, and disturbing the, whole township in thin way.— l am, &V., A< Fireman.
