One of the trustees in Laws n's estate intends taking proceedings against the j liquidators of the Commercial Bank in connection with the £34,000 which the Bank alleged was paid by one trustee without the consent of the others. Sydney, June 3The Government intend almost literally to carry out General Schaw's recommendations for the improvement of the defences, and the military estimates will be submitted to Parliament next week. A man named Burns, believed to be Riley, the bushranger, who was noted many years ago for his desperate deeds, has been arrested for horse stealing near Armid&le. The meeting was addressed by several member-: of Parliament. All the premises occupied by Chinese were closed by order of the police as a precautionary measure, but no disturbance whatever took place. As the Guibrie was leaving for JSew* castle to«day her Chinese passengers made a desperale attempt to land, and severe fights with the police resulted. Ultimately the latter succeeded in over* powering the Mongolians, but not with", out some or their members receiving injuries. One chinese eluded the vigilance of the police and got ashore, but later in the day he was recaptured and again placed on board. Melbourne, June 3. Bernard Sheridan, a publican near BenaSla, has been arrested on a charge of murdering his housekeeper, M rs McGrath by throwing her out of a buggy. The sudden crash in silver stocks has resulted m several stockbrokers suspending pajment. Two have disappeared with large deficiencies. The first issue of tenders for Treasury bills for £250,000 were opened to-day, when it was found that the amount had been oversubscribed by £178,000. The principal tendeers were the local banks and capitalists. The prices ranged from par to £1 8s 4,J premium. - The Government have decided to accept the offer of Captain Whitney for the establishment of a cartridge factory, subject, however, to the ratification by Parliament^. .
