I A stable and hay* loft of De Capteret, farmer, Papakura Talley, was burned down on Saturday last at 2 a.m. The human remains of a body charred were found in the debris. Tiiey are supposed to be those of a tramp who had gone to sleep in the loft and had caoed the fire. This Day. The properties of the Union Sash and Door Company were offered at auction to day, and were bought in at a nominal, snm. Blenheim, May 30. News, received. from the new goldfields at Mahakipawa to-day, reports that several parties found a good quantity of gold yesterday. Over 100 people are on tiie field, and others are still flocking in. Christchubch, May 30. , Peter Sinclair who .was shot by. Henley at Springßton on Monday, is progressing very favorably. The Government hold about L2OOO wharfage, &c, due to the Lyttelton Harbor Board, which is short of funds to the extent of LI OO or so. The Auditor-Gen-eral will hot allow the Board to overdraw, and the Board decided to-day to ask Government to pay up promptly. Yesterday a woman named Catherine I Pye, 55 years old, a resident of Winslow, was foand dead in bed at the house of Wm. Gunnel!, where she was visiting. At the inquest to-day, a verdict of death from serous apoplexy was returned. Invbbcaboill, May 30. The memorial Stones of the Salvation Army barracks were laid to-day with a demonstration.
