Fire Brigade Sports

The threatening weather on Thurs* day, the morning: the anniversary of the birthday of Her Majesty the Quer , had a Very depressing effect on those who had hoped to spend a pleasant day either at the Fire Brigade Sports or in outings in other directions. Light showers of rain fell up till about eleven o'clock in the forenoon, when the skies cleared and the day became bright and fine. The attendance at the sports was of course small in the early part of the day, but in the afternoon the visitors began to roll up until five or six hundred persons were on the ground. The Feilding Brass Band was present and played a good selection of pieces during the day. Mr Summer's had a refreshment booth and war, as us ml, liberally patronised by the public who thoroughly appre- < ciated his abilities as a caterer. At a few minutes after twelve noon, the Manchester Kifles, in command of Lieutenants Pleasants and Kirton, fired a Jet dejoie and gave three cheers in honor of" Her Majesty, with the usual royal salute. The following are the principal events which came off, but owing to the length of the programme, the lateness of starting, and tha time occupied by the football match, several had to be struck out :— 1.
