The N.Z.L. and M.A.. Company, Limited, report under date Sydney May 12th:— ! w . Butter (duty Id per lb.) - Prices have steadily improved since writing on the 3rd instant, and prime AI quality coast butter may be quoted at Is 5d to Is 6d, and good new fr© 8 " JX.Z. butter, of which the market is ■almost bare, would be readily sale-able-up to Is 2d. A fair demand exists for a good second%quality butter, which is to-day marketable at from Bd. to 9d. Pastry butter is in fair demand up to s£d. This activity in the butter market is of course entirely due to the dry weather we •are experieneinjr. . Cheese (duty 2d per lb) is firmer, and%r really best N.Z. factory makes sJdto6d is obtainable. Loaf cheese is only in slight iemand at from 6d to 6&d. ■ r Hams (duty 2d per lb) of which stocks continue very light, are firm at Is Id for best light weights. Bacon'(duty 2d per lb).— Market almost bare of prime light cuts, which may be quoted firm at 9^d. Wheat (free). — Continues to be operated in on a restricted scale. We quote r^Best Adelaide milling at from Ss 6d to 3s 7d. Barley (free).— Cape Barley is dull at 3s. i. . *.v Oats (free)— The supplies by the '* Fukaki" and '• Paetole" on the sth inst, with 7274 and 1378 sacks respectively; the " Wairarapa" on the 6th, with 876 sacks, and the v Hauroto" on the 7th, with some 7300 sacks, have been more than sufficient to meet present requirements, though prices can hardly be said to. have declined as the demand through the week has been well maintained. We quote:— Best milling up to 2s 3d to 2s 4d good bright stout heavy feed up to 2s 2d good feed up to 2s l.Jd inferior and dark up to Is lOd prime seed 2s 3d.
Bran (free).— Owing to the continued dry weather is still advancing, and considerable speculation has been, and is now, taking place in this article. Stocks are heavy, though holders maintain a very firm stand, and show no inclination to sell anything like parcels at present quo ition=-, ▼ z., lOd tolO£4, Pollard (free)— Has also experienced some improvement, and may be quoted at lOd. " Peas (free).— Large supplies chiefly of inferior sorts still continue to come forward to thiß market, which prevents any improvement in prices. Potatoes (free). Since writing on the 3rd instant some 11,600 sacks sacks have arrived by the " Pukaki" and "Hauroto," but owing to the superior quality of the N.Z. potatoes tliiß year, prices have been well maintained, as the Circular Head are by no means first class. We quote: — Prime N.Z. Derwents £2 17.8.. 6 dto £3 per ton Do. Circular Heads £2 .-17s. 6d to £3 Warrnamboois £2 10s.
Malt (free),— A line of English malt in tanks was quitted during the •week at 6s 3d. New Zealand Hemp (free) is with- 1 out improvement, the arrivals from New Zealand since last writing being very large. ; . : Fungus (free). — Continues .saleable at up to 4£d for best well-dried aamplea. '
