In the House of Representatives, A long and acrimonious discussion took place concerning certain words used by SirF. Whitaker in the Council when moving the second reading of the Loan Bill* The Premier, in closing the debate, read a memo from Sir F. Whitaker, m which the latter stated that when he used the word "insolvency" he did so asapplied to the Government, andnot to the colony, if the Bill was thrown out by the Council. The matter then dropped. The following Bills were introduced and read a first time:— Mr Pyke— The Boman Catholic Schools Bill ; Mr La wry — The Foul Brood among Bees Bill. In the absence of two-thirds of the House the proposed Bales of Procedure could not be moved.
Mr Fisher moved the second reading of the Oodhn Moth Bill, which enacts regulations for the conduct of orchards' — Agreed to. The Minister of Justice moved the second reading of the Naval and Military Settlers and Volunteers Land BUI, which was agreed to. The Colonial Secretary introduced the Electoral Bill, and after a short discussion the House adjourned at 9.40 p.m.
