Football

(Notes by " Off Side.")

A match was played on the Oval on Saturday between a Feilding team and the Awahuri Natives, and resuited in a win for the local team by 6 points to ml. The feature of the Maori's play was their passing and collaring, which in some instances was excellent.

The mateh — Englishmen v. Auckland — resulted in another win for the Englishmen by 6 points to 3. During the game Whiteside, Auckland's crack back, was hurt, and had to retire.

A match will be played on the Oval next Saturday between the Taonui and Feilding boys.

The locai team will be considerably weakened this season through the loss of half-a-dozen of their best players. There will be a much larger number to pick a team from, but the majority of them are young at the game. The practices this season have been very satisfactory so far, and it is to be hoped the players will continue to roll up every Saturday as well as they have be&n doing, for they have yet a lot to learn. Tbey will have to go in for more passing or they will never be successful. That is the great point where the Englishmen have the advautage over New Zealanders.
