The Fire Brigade

A meeting of the Feilding Volunteer Fire Brigade was held on Tuesday evening at the office of Captain Bray, who occupied the chair. Ths S«cretary read the minutes of the previous meeting, and these were confirmed.

The Captain said one object of the meeting was to consider a proposal for getting up some sports and entertainments in aid of the funds of the Brigade. Another object was to consider whether or not a separate subscription list for a firebell and bell tower should be first, and at once, opened. A proposition was moved and seconded, That a subscription list for the abdre object alone be started at once. . An amendment, to the effect that the subscription list be a general one for all the purposes of tbe Brigade was tuoved, seconded, and carried.

Mr Morey proposed the Brigade hold sports on the Oral on the Queen's Birthday. This was seconded by Mr H. Worsfold.

Mr Morey submitted a draft programme for the proposed sports, including some very amusing* ©rents, and this appeared to meet the approval of the meeting. After discussion the motion that the sports be held was carried unanimously. Resolved, That the.^officers of the Brigade be a Committee to arrange and carry out the programme for the day. Eesolved, That a concert be held in the evening, and that the Captain and Secretary be deputed to make arrangements for a Hall. -Eesolved, That Messrs Eade, Gosling, Shearer, and Eeading be a Committee to arrange the concert, with power to add to their number. The Secretary said he had written to the Captain of the Woodville Fire Brigade for information as to the sale of their engine to the Feilding Bri:gad«, as the former is about to employ a steam engine.

Resolved, That in the event of a favorable reply, a deputation consisting of the Captain and Lieutenant inspect said engine, endeavor to arxange as to terms, &c, and report to the Brigade. .Arrangements were made for the meeting of the canvassing and other Committees, and this concluded the business. .;
