This Morning's Earthquake
Two very severe shocks of earthquake, accompanied by a loud rumbling noise, were felt here this morning at 2.10 a.m. No damage is reported. According to the calculations of a French savant we should have some more to-morrow and next day. A very sharp shock of earthquake was felt at Upper Taonui this morning, about seven minutes past two. The oscillations appeared to have from north-east to south-west, and lasted for a considerable time.

The most violent earthquake experienced for some years occurred about ten minutes past two this morning two shocks followed in rapid succession accompanied by loud noise. Wellington, This Day. Two slight shocks of earthquake were felt here this morning at 2.10 and 6.40. Direction — north-west. Wanganui, This Day. A sharp and long continued shock of earthquake was felt here at 10 minutes past two this morning. The rumbling was not particularly noticeable. Palmerston North, This Day. A severe shock of earthquake was experienced in Palmerston at 2.10 a.m. this morning, which was the heaviest felt here for years. No damage is reported.
