At a meeting held after the close of householders' meeting, Mr Fry was elected! Chairman. Mr Haybittle has just received some marvellous works of art, showing forth the various excellencies of a particular brand of tobacco. It would puzzle Buskin to describe all their beauties. It will be a matter of interest to many of our readers to know that Messrs T. Kennedy Macdonald and Co. are shortly to resume their now celebrated auction sales of the Wellington and Manawatu Railway Company's lands. The next sale will be held on a date to be fixed next month, when the township of Paraparaumii, situated on the company's line only some 33 mills from Wellington, ,will be sold, together with the. fertile pastoral lands adjoining, comprising some 4000 acres, subdivided ' into convenient farm blocks. In view of the disgust and even indignation expressed ' among 1 - the " better classes" when a ■■ .'.' small- man fails, and seeks the protection afforded by the Bankruptcy Court, we would suggest it be made a felony to nla unless the liabilities of the debtor tot up to a thousand pounds anil over. This would give an impetus (of a kind) to trade even ia the dullest tunes. The "gentility" of bankruptcy would be restored, and the " lower classes" kept in their proper places. The idea is a good one and will, no doubt, meet general approval. Princ* vWilliaml of Prussia, tne^eldest* son of the Crown Prince, is an iIU conditioned swash* buckling 'Jingo,' who has for years been on Tery indifferent terms with his fat her and mother. : ; In appearance he is Gprman and soldierly, sare for one physical . defect. 1 "This is a withered arm, finished >off with bulls of flesh from which spxput fire -smaller balls with round nails onHhem. The sight of this misformed member inspires strangers with. such repulsion that the Prince conceals it in a pouch in , his uniform whenever possible. The arm is so weak that he can hardly raise it. Mentally, the Prince falls f*r shortof either his father or mother. He has all the obstinacy and greed for the con« quest that distinguished the Kaiser, without any of that grand .old man's good qualities. The Princess is a colorless girl unlikely to exercise muck influence, either for good or eril, on her huaband or the Empire. Her principal character' istic seems to be parvimoniouiiness ; indeed, both the Prince and Princess are mean m money matters to a degree.
