Easter Monday
« _. There was no lack of amusement provided for the pleasure seeking public yesterday. The train arrangements were all that could be desired, and although the number of passengers carried was very great, not a single accident or hitch of any kind occurred. In the early morning the weather looked anything but promising, therefore those who were going to a distance required to exercise a considerable amount of resolution before a start was made. Happily for everybody the day did not fulfil the promise of the morning, and beyond a smart breeze of wind and a cloudy sky, the weather was fine. However, there can be no question the fear of getting a ducking kept a number away from the Feilding races which were not co well attended as they have been on previous meetings. The Marton Caledonian games attracted some visitors, Feilding being represented, but our local peds did not do very well. At Wanganui a volunteer review and sham fight was held where there was a fair muster of volunteers. Iv the evening a complimentary concert to Miss E. Atkins was held in the auction rooms of Messrs F. R. Jackson and Co. |
