STRAIGHT TIPS FOR MONDAY'S RACES.
(By "Maxm.") The acceptances for the Feilding races are very poor, as I predicted they would be, owing to the small amount of the stakes and the indifferent handicapping. Waitangi is the only horse that has has paid up for m the hurdle race, and I don't wouder either as he had all the best of the weights. lam glad to see the Club have acted on my suggestion and added an extra Hack race to the ' programme. With good handicapping 1 1 am sure there will be a field of not less j than twenty horses start for it. The Club were very lucky in receiving such good prices for the privileges, there being so many counter attractions. Although the acceptances are small a first class day's racing may be expected if the weather is fine. The four Hack races will make up for the small fields in the other events. In the Handicap five horses have accepted. | Tonganro has certainly proved himself a real good 'un and, as regards class, he is certainly a street ahead of any of those pitted against him. If the ground be hard, I think he would hold them all safe, according to his Napier running ; but as it is now he has no snow, as he has proved that he can gallop ever so much better on a hard course. I should not be surprised to see him scratched for the big event, and reserved for the two short races. Germain©, 7st 121 b, is certainly the pick of the basket. She has proved nerself to be ene of the gamest little mares that ever ran on this coast. I am afraid she has hardly had time enough to get over her Napior trip where she ran in the two hurdle races, and where on the second day, she was in receipt of three stone from Tres Sec and he beat her, so she could not have been in her true form. Lady Artist, 7st 4l¥, has not ran since the Wellington Steeplechase Meeting where she broke down. I hear her trainer has been frightened to work her on account of her dickey leg, so she is likely to be a bit short of work. If Bhe starts she mußt be considered dangerous as the eowg will suit her. Goth, an aged horse, with 6st 101 bon his back is fairly treated, but he is such a rogue at boring and running inside posts that he is not to be depended on. If he only went the course proper I think there is nothing in the race to trouble him. Spray 6st 71b has been troubled with a bad leg, and she is also short of work, so she cannot be reckoned with. ■My tip shall be Goth, chance whether he goes straight or not, with Germame and Lady Artist to fill the other places. Maiden —Orlando 1, Wanda 2, Little Vixen 3. Stbvabds — Orlando 1, Tongariro 2. Winter Oats — Whatever wins the Handicap, I shall shall expect to see win this race. Hagar next best. (
